Son John was mentioned in the 1705 will of Thomas Paine. John Paine took the freeman's oath in June of 1689 and resided at Eastham. A boat builder, he held positions there of deacon, selectman, treasurer, clerk, and representative to the General Court. He kept a journal containing family records which has been published in Maryland.

The will of John Paine, dated 14 July 1731 and proved 30 August 1732, mentioned wife Alice; sons John, William, Theophilus and Thomas Paine; daughters Mary Freeman, Sarah Knowles, and Elizabeth Snow, and unmarried daughters Rebecca, Mercy, Alice, and Hannah Paine. Alice Paine of Eastham was named guardian of minor daughters Hannah and Alice Pain on 18 April 1732.
