Sarah Ann Swain

(March 19, 1838 - September 21, 1889)

Sarah Swain was born in Waukegan, Illinois on March 19, 1838, the 2nd child of Polly and Benjamin. Sarah's dad died in 1849, her older brother in 1850. Polly remarried and the family moved to Chickasaw County, Iowa. Sarah married William Gaines, they had a large family and farmed, ran a hotel and are in local newspapers, genealogy books and local history books so their lives are pretty well documented.
