Amphylis was born about 1636 in Providence to Thomas and Alice Ashton Angell. The Angells were early settlers of Rhode Island. April 27, 1663 Amphylis married Edward Smith, they had children. Amphylis may have died at age 58, the same year as her parents 1694. Her burial place and death details are somewhat unknown.
