In the U.S. Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865, Salathial is listed as residing in Clayton, Crawford, Wisconsin; Age on 1 July 1863: 39; Estimated birth year: abt 1824; Race: White; Birth place: Ohio.

Ruth Dilley wrote, "A newspaper item found by Vernon Erickson from 8/11/1898 Kickapoo Scout stated that Salathiel Coleman was very ill with enlarged heart. He was staying at the home of Mrs. H. Whitaker [ His daughter Harriet, Mrs. Hiram Whiteaker]". Note: at the time of the illness, he was living at Bell Center. However, he recovered enough to remarry the next year.
Some research indicated that while Salathial's name is on the tombstone in the Whiteaker Cemetery, it appears that he was buried in the Mook Cemetery. In January 2006, this writer reviewed the Cemetery records of Crawford County and found Salathial only in Coleman-Whiteaker Cemetery with his first wife Rachel. Also, after a request of this writer through the findagrave.com system for a picture of a headstone, a couple individuals personally researched records and the Mook Cemetery without finding any records or pictures of his headstone although his second wife, Mary, is buried there with her first husband David Mook.
