Stephen Barker, John Gutterson, and Thomas Astin formerly of Andover purchased 98 acres on the north side of the Merrimack River (the area that became Methuen) from widow Lydia Griffin and John Griffin. On 15 June 1726, Lieut. Stephen Barker, John Gutterson, and Thomas Astin entered an indenture agreement for the division of this property.1
