Nils [Nels] Magnus Person died 1947. From my mother's handwritten date book [Thelma Stayberg Gartmann]:
"4/3 - Uncle Nels Pearson died"
"4/7 - Mom & Pop, Pat & Mary went to the funeral at Braham"
Mom & Pop would have been Karine and John Stayberg while Pat & Mary would have been Art Staberg's wife, Pat, and Joe Staberg's wife, Mary. Pat and Mary were sisters, married to father (Joe) and son (Art).
Letter from Nina Pearson, 17 Feb 1974, to NH
"My father died the 2nd of April 1947. The names of his father and mother were Mr. and Mrs. Per Olson. I don't know what his mother's maiden name was, and in Sweden they took the first name and added son to it, so that is how my dad's name is Person instead of Olson. I think it is kind of funny but that is how they did it."
According to his death certificate on file at the Minnesota History Center, St. Paul, Minnesota, Nils Magnus Person was born 13 Jun 1864 at Nybe, Hafvera, Sweden to Per Olof Olson and Julia Halvaradotter; and died 2 Apr 1947 in Grass Lake Township, Kanabec County, Minnesota. Informant on the death certificate was his son, Alfred Pearson.
Both Berit, known in the family as Martha, and Nils, are buried in Grasston Union Cemetery.
