Mrs. Lilly S. Hess, of Bozeman, Mont., died Thursday, Feb. 7 at Florence Convalescent home at Bozeman after a lingering illness.
Lilly Susan Brunner, daughter of Henry and Susan (Aldorfer) Brunner was born December 31, 1874 in Lakeland township, Washington county, Minn. She attended elementary school in Lakeland and completed her education at St. Paul Academy at St. Paul Park. She taught school in Washington and Steven counties for two years.
On Thanksgiving day, November 26, 1896, she was united in marriage to Henry Hess of Morris, Minn. They were engaged in farming near Morris and later moved to Princeton and in 1911 came to Lakeland.
In 1929 they retired and moved to Hudson and lived here until 1956 when she went to live at Bozeman. Her husband preceded her in death in 1937.
She was a life long member of the Methodist church, serving many years as a Sunday school teacher and church organist. In Hudson she was a faithful member of the Hudson Methodist church and Womens Society of Christian Service.
She is survived by one son; Milton, Stillwater, two daughters, Hazel (Mrs. H. Ray Hill), Bozeman and Grace (Mrs. Edward R. Kalina), Montgomery, Minn.; three grandchildren: Richard Hill, Garden Grove, Cal., Dr. Robert Kalina, San Antonio, Tx., and Ronald Kalina, Montgomery; and one great grandchild, Paul Kalina; one brother, Max Brunner, Stillwater.
Funeral services were Monday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Methodist church with Rev. Robert Schtjen officiating. Interment was in Willow River Cemetery.
