Henry Adam Brunner

Henry A. Brunner was a prominent farmer of Lakeland township, Minnesota. He was born in Switzerland, July 29, 1840, and came to America with his parents in 1854, when he was fourteen years of age. They stopped first at Lakeland township, and then the father, Adam Brunner, bought a farm in Afton township, Minnesota and lived there until his death, September 10, 1879. The mother passed away May 24, 1879. In 1866, Henry Brunner bought eighty acres in Lakeland township and later added to the original purchase until he had 337 acres. Mr. Brunner was married, August 8, 1867, to Susie, a daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Fry) Altorfer, natives of Zurich, Switzerland, both born in 1811. Mr. and Mrs. Brunner were the parents of nine children:

Freddie died in infancy. Mr. Brunner served on the town and school boards and was supervisor, treasurer and assessor. He died May 12, 1906. Mrs. Brunner is still living on the family farm in Lakeland township. All the family attend the Methodist Episcopal church. Three of the daughters are married. Lillie S. married Henry Hess of Princeton, Minn., and has three children: Milton, born November 27, 1900; Hazel M., born October 16, 1902; and Grace S., born November 16, 1907. Esther R. married Ewald Reichow of Lakeland township. They have no children. Ida E. married Charlie J. Hener, of Chokio, Minn., March 12, 1903.
During his life, Mr. Brunner was much honored and respected. Mrs. Brunner is a broad-minded woman, and occupies an important place in the community.

The funeral services of Mr. Henry Brunner were held at the Congregational chuch Tuesday, Rev. J. L. Keene of Cannon Falls with Rev. R.G. Fisher conducted the services. The Stillwater choir ably assisted with the singing.
