HSO, 8 Nov 1918
Edward Claimance Axt died at 3:15 p.m., Oct. 3, 1918 of influenza, contracted while employed as timekeeper at the government munition plant in Stillwater.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Axt and is survived by his brothers, Fred C. Edward C. Axt was born at Hudson June 2, 1888 and lived here all his life, except a few years while he was employed as clerk at the Great Northern Shops office and at Omaha General office in St. Paul.
Four years ago he started farming and after two years built a home, doing his own work, and he moved with his mother to the farm in the fall of 1916.
Early in the summer of 1917 his mother was taken seriously ill with cancer and died August 7, 1917. During her illness Edward was always at her side, ready to do everything to give her comfort and wait on her. His brothers and sisters will cherish an everlasting gratefulness to him for his devotion to the mother and will doubly grieve over his untimely death. He was taken ill on Oct. 23 and came to his brother's home that afternoon.
During his illness he never feared death and smiled to the last saying that he was ready to go whenever called.
