Mrs. Ben Beaudry Dies Here Saturday
Was Resident of Hudson for 62 Years; Funeral Held Here on Monday Morning
Mrs. Ben Beaudry, 75 years old, and a resident of Hudson for the past 62 years, died in her sleep at her home, 1016 Tenth street, early Saturday morning, Aug. 27. Death was due to a cerebreal hemorrhage.
Othilla Beaudry was born Dec. 1, 1873 at Breaslau, Germany, the daughter of Augusta and Robert Friend. When she was about 13 years old, she migrated to America, coming to Hudson. As a girl she worked with her brother, Robert Friend, who owned the candy store known as the "Palace of Sweets" on Locust street. While employed at the store, her happy disposition made for her many friends, which she kept throughout her lifetime.
She was married to Ben Beaudry on July 18, 1904, at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Hudson, by Father Barney. The family made its home in Hudson ever since. Mrs. Beaudry was a kind and loving wife and mother who devoted her life to her family, home and church.
Besides her husband, Ben, she is survived by two daughters, Miss Frances Beaudry of Hudson, and Mrs. Irene Butterfield of Centuria, Wash.; three sons, John of Minneapolis, Phillip and Eugene of Hudson; one sister, Mrs. A. Gartmann; one brother, Robert Friend, both of Hudson; and sixteen grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 8:30 o'clock Monday morning from St. Patrick's Catholic church, Father Taylor officiating. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery. The pallbearers were Robert, Joseph and Max Gartmann, nephews, Leonard Reidel, Alfred Larson and Al Karras. Mrs. Beaudry's grandson, Terry, was one of the servers at the Mass. The Jasper Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
NH: Although I was only nine when Tillie died, I recall going to her wake, which was held in the Beaudry home, with my mother and dad; and how distraught my grandmother Gartmann was with the unexpected death of her younger sister.
