Vivian Pearl Titel, 88, of Burkhardt, died Wednesday, August 16, at Greeley Healthcare Center in Stillwater.
She was born November 7, 1911, in Viscount, Sask., Canada, the daughter of Fred and Myrtle Leyh Burton. She attended Eastery School in Canada and in Ohio before coming to Roberts where she completed her education.
On April 19, 1931, in Stillwater, she was married to John Dennis (Jack) Smith who died in 1954. Her second marriage was to Lewis Titel on July 18, 1961.
Earlier in life she worked on various farms with milking and other chores. She also worked in housekeeping at Hotel Hudson, as a waitress at the Willow River Inn in Burkhardt and as a nurse's aid at the Burkhardt Rest Home and Hudson Memorial Hospital. For many years she was the bookkeeper for the Burkhardt Cooperative.
She was an outdoors person and enjoyed and taught classes on birds and served as a "bird counter" for National Bird Counters, USA. She enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, and hunting reacoons with her husband and was interested in current events and politics. Her greatest love, however, was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors are her husband, Lewis of Burkhardt; a son, John (Shari) Smith of O'Fallon, Missouri; a daughter, Joan (Douglas) Krattley of Salt Lake City, Utah; three sisters, Nena Hoeprich of Denver, Colorado, her twin, Evelyn Lucas of Choiceland, Sask., Canada, and Pearl (Robert) Torgerson of Stillwater; two brothers, Donald (Joyce) Burton of Wetasakwin, Canada and Theodore (Mary) Burton of Aurora, Minnesota, and three grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Grant, and her first husband, John D. Smith.
The funeral service was Monday, August 21, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Burkhardt with Pastor Marilyn Thurber officiating.
Burial was in Willow River Cemetery where casketbearers were Greg Burton, Ron Burton, Paul Barros, Barry Trgerson, John Klatt and Karl Klatt.
