Lewis E. Titel, "Uncle Louie," 90, of Clear Lake died Sunday, March 2, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Lewis Edward Titel was born on June 26, 1917, in Clear Lake, the son of Alexander and Grace (Ludwig) Titel. He grew up in the Clear Lake area and attended Clear Lake schools.
In his younger days, Lewis worked around the country in the CCC camps before he entered the U.S. Army in 1941. He served in Europe during World War II and was part of the D-Day Invasion of Normandy.
In December of 1941, Lews was married to Mabel Marschal. After the war, Louie returned to the Clear Lake area and worked for several years as a mechanic at the Chevy Garage in Amery. He moved to Burkhardt and worked at Armor in South St. Paul until he retired in 1982.
After Mabel's death in 1961, Lewis was married to Vivian Smith.
In his spare time, Louie loved hunting and fishing. He also played the guitar, accordion and organ and enjoyed playing in several dance bands around the area.
Lewis was especially fond of children and loved spending time with his many nieces, family and friend. In 2004, he returned to Clear Lake and three years later when his health began to fail, he moved to the Golden Age Manor in Amery.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake.
Lewis is preceded in death by his wives, Mabel and Vivian; his parents, Alexander and Grace Titel; three brothers, Ray, Ralph and Roy Titel; and sister, Mrtie Tanner.
He is survived by sisters, Theresa Barros of Minneapolis and Bev (Kenny) Klatt of Clear Lake; step-daughters, Joan (Doug) Kratley and John (Sherry) Smith; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, great grand-nieces and nephews, relatives and many friends.
The funeral service was at United Methodist Church in Clear Lake on March 6. Interment was in Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake.
