Fred E. Burton, 79, died Monday afternoon at the Hilltop Nursing Home in Burkhardt after an illness of about a year. He had been at the nursing home nine months.
Burton was born January 22, 1878 in Mantorville, Minnesota, the son of Elphenus and Sally Burton. In about 1904 he went to Canada where he farmed for many years. On December 31, 1906, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Leigh at Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. She preceded him in death September 25, 1949 at Burkhardt. In 1925 he returned to this area where he has since resided. Retiring from farming in 1939, he then operated a resort at Bass Lake until 1955.
Surviving are four sons: Kenneth, Fruitland Park, Florida; Grant, Burkhardt; Donald, Price George, British Columbia; and Theodore, Aurora, Minnesota; four daughters, Nena (Mrs. Carl Hoeprick), Denver, Colorado; Evelyn (Mrs. Cecil Lucas), Choiceland, Saskatchewan; Mrs. Vivian Smith, Burkhardt; and Pearl (Mrs. Robert Togerson), Stillwater; one sister, Mrs. Fred Hunter, Plunkett, Saskatchewan and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday from the Kramer Funeral Home with Dr. E. F. Seeliger officiating. Interment will be made in Willow River Cemetery.
