Benjamin William Sargent died Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the River Falls Hospital where he had been a patient for about two weeks. He had been ill for many years with congestion of the lungs. He had been a farmer for most of his life.
He was born in rural River Falls, May 17, 1884.
On March 23, 1909 he was married to Martha Doerer at Scranton, No. Dak., where they lived for six years while he was employed in the coal mines.
During his residence in Scranton, he was a member of a professional baseball team. It was in Scranton their two sons, Kenneth and Archie were born, both of whom have preceded their father in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Sargent moved to a farm in St. Joseph township where their daughter Myrtle was born.
In March of next year they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Survivors include his widow, Martha; a daughter, Myrtle (Mrs. Albert P. J. Hanson); three children, Kenneth Hanson of Ebro, Minn., Beverly Hanson of New York, N.Y., and Wayne Hanson, a student at Wisconsin State College in River Falls.
Funeral services were at the Burke Funeral Home Thursday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. During the service organ music was played by Mrs. D. H. Sather, and Mrs. N. P. Scheide was the soloist.
Pallbearers were Harold Frazier, Ed Christoph, Charles Dahlke, Herman Dahlke, Ben Langager and Lawrence Persells.
