(11 Sep 1918 - 16 Mar 1998)

Letter, Leila Hawkinson to Art Hawkinson, 1973.
Woody attended grade school at Snow Creek, northwest of Jordan. He graduated from Garfield County High School in Jordan in 1939 as Salutatorian. He took post graduate bookkeeping courses at Jordan and worked as a truck driver for Ebert Stanton for a time. During the years of World War II he worked at Boeing Aircraft in Los Angeles and on the Alcan Highway in Canada. After the war he went into the trucking business for a short time before buying a partnership in Floyd's Bar in Jordan. He sold the partnership in January 1950 and bought the Stockman Bar in Circle in March. He sold the Stockman Bar in the fall of 1958 and bought the hardware store next door. Woody is an avid and successful gun collector.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Hawkinson of Circle, are the parents of a 6 1/2 lb. boy who arrived last week.

One night when we [Harlan & Dorothy Krinke and Art & Nancy Hawkinson and families] were all out to eat after a gun show in Minneapolis, Woody got to talking a little about the old days and about Baldy Williams. Old Baldy, of course, had been quite a character in his day and Woody told the story about Baldy going to visit a "cat house" in Kansas City or some such place, and liking it so well that he bought the place. It was a short lived venture though as the place burned down a couple weeks later and Baldy was out of business.
He also told how he happened to buy Floyd's Bar in Jordan back in the 40's. Woody had recently returned from Alaska and had bought a new Diamond T truck with the intention of going into trucking. He stopped into Floyd's for a drink one afternoon and over a beer they got to talking with the owner who said he'd like to sell the place. Woody asked how much, he gave Woody a figure, Woody thought it was probably reasonable so went down the street to get some money from Al to put with what he had and came back and gave it to him. He took off his apron, handed it to Woody, and left.
He said he only made one more trip with the Diamond T after that, going to Lewiston for beer. Later he sold it to Carl Hawkinson.
