Death
James Edward Furr, 95, of Market Avenue, Waynesboro, passed away early Monday morning, March 23, 2009, at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville. He was born July 25, 1913, in Verona, a son of the late Floyd F. and Margaret (Fixx) Furr. Mr. Furr was a United States Navy Veteran, having served during World War ll, the Korean War, and retired as a machine operator from Acme Visible Records of Crozet. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. (Rexrode) Furr; a sister, Louise Glenn; and a brother, Richard C. Furr. Survivors include a son, James F. Furr and his wife, Mary, of Waynesboro; a daughter, Sara Frances Snelson of Laurel, Maryland; four grandchildren, Rene Grady and her husband, Sean, Chris Furr and his wife, Misti, Erika Cadori and her husband, Mario, Kathy Marsh and her husband, James; seven great-grandchildren, Alison Grady, Robert Grady, Dillon Grady, Zachary Furr, Meredith Furr, Francesca Cadori, Cathryn Cadori; a nephew, Don E. Glenn; nieces and nephews, Mary June Brown, Kathryn and William Humphreys, Caroline Harper and Leo Harper and Lina and Robert Harper. He also leaves many more loving and caring great-nieces and great-nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes with the Reverend David Washburn officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with military rites provided by the Stuarts Draft VFW Post 9339. Active pallbearers will be Billy Wrenn, Johnny Whitlock, Freddie Zeh, John Lynn, Henry Garrison, Suzane Davis, Tina Ruszala, Terry Adams and Richard Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be family members and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro YMCA, 648 South Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, VA 22980 or the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, 201 West Broad Street, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
