Death

STAUNTON-Elwood Hamilton "Fuzzy" Furr, 64, of 1114 Churchville Ave., died at his residence at 2:25 a.m. Sunday following a lengthy illness. He was born in Augusta County on Dec. 1, 1919, a son of the late Edgar M. and Julia Mahone Furr. Mr. Furr was employed by Trailways Bus Co. as a driver for 37 years before retiring. He was a member of the Annex United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jeanne Honaker Furr; three sons, Elwood C. Furr and Robert E. Furr, both of Staunton, and MSgt. Gary L. Furr of Dover, Del.; four daughters, Mrs. James D. (Shirley) Lafon and Mrs. Carl E. (Nancy) Talley, both of Staunton, Mrs. Grover C. (Judy) Ashby of Mint Spring and Mrs. David F. (Linda) Law Jr. of Middlebrook; two brothers, Paul C. Furr of Fishersville and Murray L. Furr of Staunton; 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his first wife and mother of his seven children, Mrs. Eva Furr of Route 3, Staunton. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Annex United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Stephen J. Martin, William Garber and Dr. Lindsay Howan. The committal service will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Charles Varner Jr., John Varner, Joseph E. Furr, Josh E. Furr, Charles L. Furr, Roscoe Irvine, Webb Synder and George B. Harris Jr. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Tuesday evening in the Henry Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
