Death

Staunton, VA. Gary Lee 'Pete' Furr, 57, of 401 Prospect Street, Apt. A1, died at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 21, 2004) in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. He was born May 3, 1946 in Staunton, a son of Eva (Nutty) Furr of Staunton, and the late Elwood H. Furr. Mr. Furr served in the Vietnam Conflict and retired from the U. S. Air Force after 20 years of service. After his retirement, he was employed at McQuay International for a number of years. He was a member of Annex United Methodist Church. Family members include a daughter and son in law, Nikki Lee and Brian K. Carter of Oklahoma City, OK; two brothers, Elwood C. Furr and his wife Becky, and Robert E. Furr, all of Staunton; four sisters and brothers in law, Shirley and James Lafon, Nancy and Carl Talley, Judy and G.C. Ashby, all of Staunton, and Linda and David Law of Stuarts Draft; a grandson, Garrett Riley Carter of Oklahoma City, OK; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday (Jan. 23, 2004) in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Harold 'Pete' Campbell and Russell Heinrich. Entombment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be nephews, Terry Lafon, Kirk Lafon, Tim Talley, Matthew Furr, Brent Ashby, Brian Law, and Tom Boxler. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of McQuay International and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 22, 2004) at the funeral home.
