Death
George Samuel Furr, 73, of Winchester, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg. Mr. Furr was born March 5, 1929, in Fauquier County, the son of Edward Franklin and Margaret Wines Furr. He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers after 20 years of service. He was also employed at Paul Mellon's Rokeby Farm for 15 years. Mr. Furr served in the Army from 1951-1953. He was a member of Berryville VFW Post 09760. He was a 1947 graduate of Marshall High School. He was married to Patricia Pierce Furr on Feb. 14, 1994, in Winchester. Surviving with his wife are three stepsons, Ricky and Timmy Hausenfluck, both of Berryville, and Thomas Wood of Valleio, Calif; two stepdaughters, Shawn Schofield of Berryville and Linda Sheehan of Stephens City; eight stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; and one nephew. A funeral will be 11 a.m. on Saturday at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with the Rev. Douglas B. Wright officiating. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.Endnotes
