News Pub (ind)12 Oct 1917the Bendigo Advertiser published the follwing: "OBITUARY. LATE MR. R. STRAHAN. The interment of the remains of the late Mr. Richard Strahan took place yesterday morning in the Church of England portion of the Bendigo Cemetery. Many friends and relatives attended at the graveside. Floral and artificial tributes of sympathy were received from the following friends and relatives:— Staff of the Prime Minister's department, Mr. and Mrs. B. Rogers, Mrs. Penberthy and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Micheel, Mrs. Dolan, Mrs. S. Rogers and family, Mrs. Phair and family, and Mrs. and Miss Waugh. The coffin-bearers were Messrs. P. Mitchell, D. Thomas, E. Tre- varton, J. Hosking, and J. Hardwick. The Rev. R. M. Fulford held an impressive service at the home prior to the funeral moving. He also officiated at the grave. Mr. Strahan, who was well known and highly respected, was head master at the Quarry Hill State School for many years. He was born at Timelin, near Dublin, Ireland, was 73 years of age, and a colonist for 52 years. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved widow and family of four sons and three daughters in their loss of a kind and loving husband and father. One son was killed in action, and there are three others still away fighting for their country. Mr. W. H. Oakley conducted the funeral arrangements"
News Pub (ind)17 Oct 1917the Castlemaine Mail published its obituary: "CAMPBELL'S CREEK. Mr Richard Strahan, who was well known throughout, the Castlemaine district, died last Wednesday in Bendigo at the age of 73 years. The late Mr .Strahan was in the Education De partment, and was head teacher of Church's Flat and Campbell's Creek State Schools, and afterwards had charge of the Quarry Mill School. He was a general favorite with all, being of a very jovial disposition. One son, Sergeant Arthur Strahan, has been killed at the war, and three others are on active service. Latterly the deceased conducted a private school in Bendigo"
