| Note | 1855 | : a letter exists, in daughter Matilda's line, written by Joseph to Elizabeth to confirm their engagement, unfortunatley it is not dated. But it was written from Stoney Creek near current Albion Park. From Stoney Creek, Joseph went to work for Henry Osborne Jnr at Avondale. He is shown as a dairyman. Perhaps he was learning to be a dairy farmer, preparing to take up his own farmland. Joseph took up land on a plateau on Saddle Back Mountain, immediately above Foxground, near Kiama. It is unknown how he secured the land but we know he owned it as it was willed to his wife & family. Traces of the house do not exist but many relatives have gone to the site & have seen the partial stone wall that surrounded the property. His daughter Matilda spoke often of the view-"down into the Foxground with all the farms spread out like a map, then away to the ocean." | | | |
