| News Pub (ind) | 5 May 1936 | The Northern Star (Lismore) published the following obituary: Mr. Joseph Knight, aged 73 years, died yesterday afternoon at his late residence, 57 Casino-street, South Lismore. He had not been enjoying good health for some time. The late Mr. Knight was born at Dapto on the South Coast and when 19 years of age came to the Richmond, settling at Dorroughby. He assisted in clearing a farm for dairying, retaining this property until his death. After spending some years at Dorroughby he commenced work at Dorrough's Mill at North Lismore. Subsequently he returned to Kiama where he was engaged in the joinery and carpentering trade. About eight years later he returned to Lismore and entered business as a contractor. Shortly afterwards he joined the firm of Brown and Jolly Ltd., with whom he remained for 30 years. Eight years ago he retired. Since his marriage 34 years ago he lived at the home in South Lismore, where death took place yesterday. At the time of his death the late Mr. Knight was a trustee of the Lismore Methodist Church. All his life time he had been a keen Methodist. For nine years in Lismore and six years at South Lismore he was Sunday school superintendent. Until recent years he was a keen member of the Lismore Poultry Club and for many years filled the office of judge's steward. Of a quiet disposition, he otherwise did not take any active part in public life. Three sons, Mervyn, Gordon and Cecil-all of Casino-street, South Lismore-and two daughters, Miss Thelma Knight, South Lismore, and Mrs. B. W. East. Five Dock, survive. Sisters are Mesdames J. M. Hewitson (North Lismore) and H. Jarman (Conway street, Lismore). and Messrs. Arthur. Walker (Union-street, South Lismore), and Hercules and Clyde Walker (Alstonville), and Ray Walker Gosford), are brothers-in-law. Mrs. J. Murphy, of Wellington (N.Z.), is a sister-in-law. The funeral will leave the Lismore Methodist Church at 3 p.m. to-day for the Methodist portion of the Lismore cemetery where burial will be made beside the remains of his wife, who predeceased him nine years ago.
