Wm C. FURR 20 s/o D. M. & Eliz. C. to M. A. ROGERS 21 d/o T. D. & Sarah 16 Aug 1883 by W. G. Morton II-86Death
William C. Furr, 78, well known resident of this county, received fatal burns when an oil stove exploded Wednesday morning about 7 o'clock at the home of his son, W. D. Furr, in Norwood. The aged accident victim made his home with his son. Mr. Furr was brought to the Yadkin hospital but treatment proved unavailing and he died Wednesday afternoon about 5:30 o'clock. Mr. Furr was alone in the room when the stove exploded. Other members of the family saw smoke issuing from the window and ran to the assistance of Mr. Furr, dragging him from the room as flames spread about the room. Following the removal of Mr. Furr, the flames were extinguished with little damage to the building. Mr. Furr was a retired wood worker, and was a native of this county, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Furr. He was married twice, first to Miss Angeline Rogers, and after her death to Mrs. Mary Jane Maynor. He is survived by his second wife, one son, W. D. Furr of Norwood; two daughters, Mrs. Hattie Almond and Mrs. Victoria Loch, both of Albemarle; and one sister, Mrs. Angeline Hartsell of near Stanfield. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Canton Baptist church, and burial followed in the church cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. John Blalock of Norwood.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, October 17, 1941
