Death
Richard C. Furr, 85, of 8901 Wayne, founder of Furr's Oriental Rugs & Fine Carpets, died Saturday at Research Medical Center. Mr. Furr operated the company 35 years at Emery, Bird, Thayer Co. and later at Macy's before he retired. He was a member of the Santa Fe Hills Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. Mr. Furr was born in Allen, Miss., and had lived in this area since 1919. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Laura E. Furr of the home; a son, Marvin R. Furr, Kansas City; two daughters, Mrs. Juanita McCloskey, Cole Camp, Mo., and Ms. Merle Davis, Kansas City; a brother, Earl Furr, Sherman, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Winnie Lee Lessing, Hazelhurst, Miss., and Mrs. Mellie West, Union Church, Miss.; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Floral Hills Chapel; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery.
