Marriage
Miss Jessie May Chrestman and Dr. James Edward Furr were married at the home of the bride at Lyon, Miss, Wednesday, June 29, 1921. Dr. Furr is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Furr of this city and his home is at Marks, Miss., while the bride is one of the South’s fairest ladies.The Oxford Eagle, Oxford, Mississippi, July 7, 1921
Death
Dr. J. E. Furr, founder of the Marks Miss. Hospital and for many years one of Quitman County's prominent practicing physicians and surgeons, died at his home in Marks at about moon today. He had been ill for some time. Dr. Furr was born in Oxford, Miss., on February 2, 1892, the son of J. S. and Mary Morrissey Furr. He attended the public schools there and graduated with special distinction from the University of Mississippi. He then attended the Tulane University of Medicine where he also graduated with honors, After serving an internship at St. Louis City Hospital, Dr. Furr began practicing medicine in Belen, Miss., but moved after a short time to Marks where he had been practicing since. He founded the Marks Hospital in 1919. His wife is the former Miss Jessie Mae Christman of Lyon, whom he married in 1921. Services will be held at the Marks Baptist Church tomorrow afternoon with the Rev. Paul M. Watson officiating and with other Marks ministers participating. Burial will be in the Marks Cemetery. Dr. Furr leaves his wife; a son, J. E. Furr Jr., and a daughter, Ivy Davidson Furr. He also reared a nephew, Dr. R. H. F. Lynch, who practiced medicine with him in Marks.Endnotes
