Death
OXFORD, Oct. 8 — Death took one of Oxford’s most valued citizens yesterday morning at one o'clock when James Stacey Furr passed away. Mr. Furr was 89 years of age last August. He was quite active in services of the Civil war and one of the most active church workers during his entire life of the community. Mr. Furr joined the Hopewell church east of Oxford, early in his teens moving his membership to the First Presbyterian church of Oxford where he has served as an elder for many years. With the exception of three years in Pontotoc county he has spent his entire life in Lafayette county. Funeral services were held from the First Presbyterian church here with Rev. J. E. Wallace in charge assisted by Dr. W. D. Huddleston and Rev. F. M. Purser of Oxford and Rev. Cole, Baptist minister of Marks. Burial was in Hopewell cemetery, east of Oxford. The honorary pallbearers were elders of the Presbyterian church: J. W. Bell, F. E. Farquer, W. W. Elliott, J. S. Sydnor, Herman Glynn, O. A. Shaw, A. L. Bondurant, J. N. Swan, Dr. Alfred Hune, J. E. Neilson and B. J. Wiley. The active pallbearer were: Dan Wiley, Alvin Hipps, J. C. Hartsfiled, E. Garner, Hugh Wiley, Will Lewis and Will Woodward. Mr. Furr is survived by eight children: Dr. Edward Furr, Marks, and Curry Furr, Belen; William Furr, Tupelo; Dewitt Furr, Univesity; Mrs. Susie Kimmons, Mrs. Kate Jackson, Mrs. Ollie White and Robert Furr all of Oxford; one brother, P.
