Death
CLAYTON — Ralph Edward Furr, 67, died at the home of his son, Shawn and daughter-in-law, Susan in Clayton, NC on Sunday, March 28, 1999. Ed was the son of the late Ralph and Nancy Bost Furr and lived in Charlotte the earlier years of his life, having his business, Furr Tile and Marble Co. He moved his family and business to Gastonia in 1962. Preceding him in death were two sons, Randy and Brett and one daughter, Sally Jo. He is survived by son Shawn of Clayton, NC; daughters, Tonya Kerr of Gastonia, NC and Katrina Yarborough of Belmont, NC; sisters, Myra and Ann; and brother Frank all of Concord, NC. Ed’s love for youth was manifested in many areas. He was the foster parent of forty three foster children, a scout leader, youth advisor and Sunday School Teacher in the Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, advisor to Hudde Group of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, house-father at Boys Home in Pineville, NC. He was an outstanding athlete and never lost his love for all sports especially his Duke Blue Devils. He will be missed especially by his son Shawn, daughter-in-law, Susan, grandchildren, Rebecca, Andrew and Richard who lovingly cared for him the last seven months of his life. Memorial services will be held at Garner Presbyterian Church in Garner, NC at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 1999. Officiating will be Rev. Jim Ferry and Rey. Robbie Craig. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Diabetes Memorial Donations, 434 Fayetteville Street Mall, Raleigh, NC 27601. Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.The News and Observer, Raleigh, North Carolina, March 30, 1999
