Death
ROCK HILL, S. C., Aug. 17 — Mrs. Katherine Irene Furr, 84, died today at her home here after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services will be conducted at 5 p. m. Tuesday at Park Methodist Church by the Rev. Ferrell Cox, the Rev. Denver Lee and the Rev. Murray Yarborough. Interment will be in Laurelwood Cemeitery. Mrs. Furr was born Aug 13, 1869, in Union County, N. C., the daughter of the late Bond D. E. Mangum and Jane Kirkland Mangum. She had lived in Rock Hill for 60 years and at the time of her death made her home with her grandchildren, Mrs. Charles Green, Harvey Partlow and Harry Partlow, all whom she reared. She was married to Charles Furr of Cabarrus County, N. C., who died in 1927. Mrs. Furr was a member of Park Methodist Church. Survivors include three children, Herbert and Melvin Furr, both of Rock Hill, and Mrs. W. A. Stephenson of Charlotte; a brother, Fletcher Mangum of Rock Hill; and a number of grandchildren. The body will remain at Bass Funeral Home until 4 p. m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the church to await the hour of the service.The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte, North Carolina, August 18, 1953
