Death
William Brown "Bill" Furr, age 83, of Mint Hill, NC passed away February 6, 2017 at Harris Hospice in Charlotte, NC. He was born July 29, 1933 in Midland, NC to the late Dewey and Etta Furr of Midland and was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Furr of Midland. He was preceded in death by brothers, Jan Furr and Lowery Furr and by sisters, Betty Hartsell and Sylvia Bowers. Bill was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucille Flowe Furr; son, Dr. William Stephen Furr and his wife Dr. Ann Ratchford Furr of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren, William Christopher Furr and Micah Ann Furr and several special nieces and nephews. He was a member and former deacon of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill, and the Ralph Leete Sunday School Class. He graduated from Bethel High School in 1951 and joined the US Army that same year, serving three years in Germany. Upon return home, he went to work for Western Electric, now known as Lucent, and retired after 33 years. Over the years, Bill enjoyed square dancing with the Groovey Grovers and Merry Mints, working the Boy Scouts and was a member of the VFW. A funeral service will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 10th of February, 2017 at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the Rotunda at the church from twelve o'clock until service time. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens following the service. Pallbearers will be Brad Furr, Gregg Furr, David Freeman, Sonny Hartsell, Michael Price and George Flowe. The family would like to thank the caretakers of the Home Watch, especially Peggy Collins and Danyel. Also thanks to the caring staff of the Harris Hospice Unit over the past two weeks.
