Death
Mary Edith McEntire died Wednesday at her Seminole home. She was 89. She was born Aug. 9, 1911, in Centerpoint, Texas, to William Albert and Cora Lee (White) Furr. On March 30, 1930, she married James Francis Roberts in Stringtown; he preceded her in death April 24, 1960. In 1978, she married Keener Brown McEntire, who preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1988. She retired the Atoka County clerk's office and was one of the original staff members of the Head Start program. She also helped run the family grocery store in Stringtown. Mrs. McEntire moved from Stringtown to Seminole four years ago and was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a 70-year member of Eastern Star. She also was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Jo Ann Dale, on Jan. 28, 1986, and a son-in-law, Sonny Ogden, in January 1988. Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Frances Ogden, Houston, Texas; Carrie Jean McGee and Jenny and Doug Morgan, all of Seminole; a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Michael and Susanne Roberts, Nacogodoches, Texas; 18 grandchildren, Steven Robert Ogden, Timothy Scott Ogden, Mary Karen Dale, Charles Michael Dale, Jeffrey Robert Dale, Nancy Elizabeth Dale, Melinda Suzanne Tapp, Amanda Jill Brown, Angela Lee Price, Sarah Rosemary McGee, Sean Douglas Morgan, Christian Lee Morgan, Matthew Joseph Morgan, Jeffrey Roberts Morgan, Kristina Maria Roberts, Samuel Ryan Roberts, Stacey Lenora Roberts, Benjamin Michael Roberts; 13 great-grandchildren; and her caretaker Mary Gray. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Coalgate, with the Rev. David Karges. Burial will be in Cairo Cemetery, north of Coalgate. Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum, Seminole.Endnotes
