Death

Earlene Marie Allen, 85, of Kiowa, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in McAlester. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. James Crowson. Burial will follow at Kiowa Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Peterson, Brian Grogan, Cory Duncan, Lee Allen, Jerry Allen, and Mark Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Jaden Northway, Landon Peterson, Nathan Grogan, and Ben Allen. Earlene was the oldest child of eleven born to Markis and Georgia (Shultz) Furr on September 9, 1932 in Harpers Valley. She went to grade school at Harpers Valley and graduated from Kiowa High School. Earlene married Otis Wilburn Allen in Kiowa. She was a homemaker and had lived in California, Texas, and Missouri before returning to Kiowa. She loved to crochet and cook, and was a member of the Kiowa First Baptist Church. Earlene especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband of 67 years: Otis of the home; son: Wilburn Allen and wife, Sherlyn of Mena, Arkansas; daughters: Donna Diana Peterson of Kiowa, Wanda Peterson and husband, Kenny of McAlester; son: Jimmy Allen of Kiowa; grandchildren: Samantha, Jerry, Melissa, Steven, Cassie, Shonna, Nathan, Brian, Lee, and Ben; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Also sisters: Francis Mitchell and husband, James of Kiowa, Lorene Mitchell of Kiowa, Kay Irvin of Wilburton; brothers: Bobby Furr of Shreveport, Louisiana, Smithy Furr and wife, Ruby of Kiowa, Bill Furr and wife, Pat of Hemet, California; sister-in-law: Flo Elliot of Kiowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Markis and Georgia Furr; grandson: Jason Grogan; granddaughter: Jenna Northway; sister: Irene Mitchell; infant sister: Arlene Furr; brothers: Harvey Furr, Dexter Furr, Markis Junior Furr; and a son-in-law: Gregg Peterson. Arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
