Death
Harold Herbert Furr, 73, of 12389 Oak Grove Road, Stanfield, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at 10:40 p.m. at NorthEast Medical Center of Concord. His funeral will be Monday at 4 p.m. with a 30-minute state in Philadelphia Baptist Church. The Rev. Dwight Mabry and Dr. David Morrow will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Born April 17, 1924, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late John Bunyan and Pearlie Smith Furr and was an electrician. He was the retired owner of Rocky River Electric Company of Oakboro and worked part-time for the past five years at the Corner Store Convenience Site at Stanfield. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and board of trustees chairman. He was also a member of the Cemetery Committee and served on the Building Committee. He was a member of the Baptist Men and the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a charter member of the 39 and Above Club for senior citizens. In addition, he was a member of the Stanfield Lions Club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Tarlton Furr of the home; a son, Herby Furr of Stanfield; a sister, Connie Furr Kennedy of Oakboro; and two grandsons. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. Memorials may be made to Philadelphia Baptist Church Building Fund, 12495 Philadelphia Church Road, Stanfield, N.C. 28168.
