Death
Herbert [Herby] Furr July 18, 1946 – 68 years old of Stanfield, NC On May 6, 2015, our loving son, husband, dad and Papa, Herby Furr of Stanfield, passed away. He will be remembered for his love of people and his sense of humor. He always had time for everyone and enjoyed his family and friends. He delighted in his grandson, Ezra, his adopted grandkids, John Owen and Laney Ruth, and his nieces and nephew- Abbie, Ali, Emma, Brack, Karsyn, and Kylie. His Christian values were evident in how he loved people. His favorite quote was “It’s not about me” from Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. He truly believed all credit for anything accomplished should go to Jesus Christ. Graveside service will Friday, May 8, 2015 – 4:00 PM at Philadelphia Baptist Church. Officiating will be Robert Britt, Chaplain at West Stanly Christian Ministry. The family will receive friends directly after the service in the Fellowship building, and invite all to stay for a meal provided in celebration of his life. The Furr family wants to thank all our family and friends for their love and support during his courageous battle with cancer. We thank the church families, our neighbors, and our entire family who have prayed for him throughout this illness. God has truly blessed us with many Christian friends. We also thank Dr. Jones at Levine Cancer Institute in Albemarle, along with the nurses and staff. He was born in Stanly County to Elsie Tarlton Furr, and the late Harold Furr. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cathy Morgan Furr; son Justin Furr and wife Jen of Boynton Beach, FL, son Seth Furr and wife Candace of Anderson, SC; Grandson Ezra Braxton Furr, and expected Granddaughter, Mia Lynn Furr. He was an avid sports enthusiast and coached community rec league basketball and baseball. He also coached basketball for several years at Stanfield School. His joy was to see young people learn skills and continue to participate at higher levels. He was a great teacher of the game and loved working with the teams. He served our country in the U. S. Air Force in Germany. He was on the Air Force fast pitch softball and basketball teams that traveled and played in Europe. Pall bearers for his service are: Monty Soots, Dale Allen, James Baucom, Shon Arrowood, Billy McLester, and Greg Tucker. Honorary Pallbearers are the young men he has coached over the years. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the West Stanly Christian Ministry, P. O. Box 27, Stanfield, NC 28163. Herby loved this ministry and its mission to serve our community through Christian love and service.Endnotes
