Death
Mildred Wood, 93, of Taylor went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 13, 2020.She was born on October 17, 1927 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Silas and Bessie Furr. Mildred grew up with three sisters and four brothers. She graduated from Gans High School, Gans, Oklahoma, in 1944 and Ozark Christian College in 1948 with a degree in Christian Education. She married Henry Wood on May 30, 1947 in Joplin, Missouri. Henry and Mildred had ministries in Christian Churches in Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, and Texas for over sixty years. As the minister’s wife, she enjoyed singing, teaching, and serving others. She retired from First Victoria National Bank in Victoria, Texas in 1999. Her favorite pass times were cross stitching, baking and entertaining. Above all, Mildred treasured her family, friends, and the Lord. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Sterling Henry Wood Jr., of 63 years; daughter, Carolyn (Wood) Lawson; sons-in-law, Eddie Geurin, Cotton Lawson, and Bill Ward; grandson, David Ward; parents; sisters, Imogene Renfro and Anna Stegman; and brother, Carl Furr. She is survived by four children, Anna Ward, Edith Geurin, Sterling Wood (Lucy), and Phillip Wood (Carrie); nine grandchildren, Crista, Brett, Adam, Brandon, Matthew, Christopher, Amanda, JD, and Logan; twelve great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Due to concerns over the coronavirus, Mildred’s Celebration of Life will be a private service.
