Death
Sarah Belle Furr Wallace, Mrs. Wallace, 84, of Charlotte, died July 19, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. She was born on August 12, 1919 in Charlotte, a daughter of the late Alonzo and Jennie Watkins Furr. She was a longtime member of Sharon Presbyterian Church, and was more recently attending First Baptist Church of Weddington. As a child, she grew up in Meadow Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was active in the Home Extension Club, and helped to establish the Pineville Chapter as well as serving as the president for the Mecklenburg County Home Extension Club. She was a woman that loved crafting, taught quilting, basket weaving, and made quilts entirely by hand. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. 'Bill' Wallace, and brother, Alonzo W. Furr. Survivors include her daughter, Malinda Wallace of Charlotte; sisters, Loma Simmons of Charlotte, Bettie Thrower of Ooltewah, TN, and Pauline (Polly) White of Denver, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews, special friends, and caregivers. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2004 at McEwen Funeral Service, with The Reverend Chuck Gardner officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen City Cemetery with Elder Newell Helms conducting the graveside portion of the service. Active pallbearers will be Alan White, Rick White, Brent White, Rick DeSoto, Rick Miskolitz, and Daniel Fogarty. Honorary pallbearers will be the Maranatha Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harris Hospice at Presbyterian Hospital, or to the Leukemia Society.
