Death
Mary Gordon Furr Kelly died March 25, 2000. Mrs. Kelly was born in Rowan County August 3, 1920, the daughter of Samuel Monroe Furr and Mae Knox Furr. She attended schools in Mecklenburg. Mary was married to Leslie Martin Kelly who preceded her in dearth in 1985. To their union were born six children. Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by a son, Harry Allen Kelly. She is survived by four daughters and their husbands, Mary Agnes and Don Lowder of Hope Mills, Martha and Ron Hager, Sarah and Junior Little, both of Davidson, Jenny and Eddie Dowdy of Mt. Ulia, a son, L. Colin and Myra Kelly of Cornelius. A sister, Jenny King and her husband Charlie King of Kannapolis and fourteen grandchildren of which two preceded her in death and eight great grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her great loves were the church, her family and the many wonderful people it became her privilege to know through the years. She was a Gold Star Mother, a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 86, and The Women Aglow. She was a dedicated member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where she as a member of the Wilson Knox Sunday School class, served as a Sunday School teacher and one of the founders of the Wednesday evening youth program at Bethel Presbyterian Church. One of her most cherished honors was being awarded a Life Membership by the Women of Bethel A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 28th at Bethel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rob Hinman Rev. J.E. Wayland, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 PM, Monday, March 27th at Raymer Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius, NC 28031.
