Death
ALBEMARLE: July 5. — Parents of two Stanly county men received notification during the past few days that their sons had been killed in action. The men, one an infantryman in Italy, the other an air force pilot, are Pfc. Willie Ray Furr, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Furr, route 1, New London, and Lt. James Boyd Kendall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Kendall, of Norwood. Private Furr, reported wounded May 15, was killed June 3, only one day after he had returned to duty from an army hospital in Italy. Lieutenant Kendall had been missing in action since June 24, 1943, and is now presumed dead by the war department.News and Record, Greensboro, North Carolina, July 6, 1944
