William was a Private in Company E 2nd Battallion Hilliard's Alabama Legion of Infantry. That unit was later designated as Company B 59th Alabama Infantry CSA. He was wounded at Petersburg, Virginia. His pension was applied for in Chilton County, Alabama by his widow, Mary J. Kemp.
W. T. Kemp had previously applied for himself 6 July 1908. He noted ownership of no land and $299 worth of livestock and home furnishings. He was a resident of Chilton Co. He enlisted as a Private in Co B, 59th Regt, Feb 1862 near Roberson Springs. He was discharged 2 Jul 1865. He was slightly wounded at the battle of Petersburg in Virginia. He is unable to make a living by manual labor on account of age, pain & general disability, chronic rheumastism. He was 68, and his post office address was Maplesville. Witnesses were R. L. Williams and Alfred Popwell.
Mary's application was dated 24 Apr 1911 and awarded 6 Jul 1908.
