Adeline filed for her Confederate widow's pension, File #10219. J. R. Kemp had served as a private in the 1st Cavalry Regt. Her application for reclassification, 2 Dec 1920, stated she was living in Clanton with Tom Kemp. she was born 23 Apr 1844. Her father was James Popwell who died in Maryland in 1865. Her husband was John Richard Kemp - she married him in Chilton Co, 10 Dec 1862. He died in Clanton, 18 Jan 1901. She had never been married to anyone else. she had never lived in any other state. John enlisted in 1861 in Chilton Co in the Cavalry as a Forage Master. His Colonel was Hobson; his Captain, Williams. He was never injured but he was captured, she didn't know where. He was at home on furlough when Gen. Lee surrendered in 1865. He was never on the pension rolls. Adeline Kemp signed with her own signature.
Another reclassification application date 10 Sep 1924 gave slightly different information. this time Adeline said in enlisted in Coopers, Chilton Co, in 1860 and that his Col was W. A. Johnson, and his Captain, Smith. He was captured in Kentucky in 1862 and imprisoned.
Her original application had been recommended by the Board of Examiners on 10 Aug 1904.

Adeline's death record gives her birth as 19 Apr 1844, died 9 May 1930 and was buried Clanton City Cemetery on the 10th. She was married to J. R. Kemp. Her parents were Reuben Popewell and Polly Callaway.
