James Popwell

James died in Federal Military Prison at Maryland during the Civil War. He was married to Mary Calloway. She is buried Shiloh Baptist Cemetery - a military marker has been placed next to her grave in honor of James Popwell. He is buried Point Lookout Confederate Cemetery, Point Lookout, St. Mary's County, Maryland.

Remarks: Inscriptions on monument to Confederate soldiers and sailors who while prisoners of war died at Point Lookout, Md. and were there buried, but subsequantly removed, either to the Point Lookout Confederate Cemetery or to their respective homes.

Popwell, Jas. Co A, 12th AL Inf. Died May 3, 1865. Buried Confederate Cemetery. One record on Ancestry says that he enlisted in Company C - likely it was consolidated or he was transferred.
