Residence (family)
This census is a bit problematic, in that it lists the couple's two oldest sons and their wives as living with them. It is possible that they were there for a visit, but both couples had small children back in the United States, and Max and Mary had a very small infant (Josephine) who would still have been nursing. Where were the children? The report on this family in the 1891 Canadian census leads me to believe that the two couples were not really there. I think Domithilde tended to proudly list all her children, whether they were actually there or not. See note by 1891 Census.Enumerated in this household were the following: Fréderic Raboin, a farmer, age 52; Domithilde Guilmette, age 49; Edmond Raboin, a farmer, age 23; Ths, age 20; Moise, age 18; Calice, age 16; Ezilda Raboin, age 14; and Philomène, age 12. Also Fréderic Raboin, age 31, and his wife Philomène Lacombe, age 28; and Maxime Raboin, age 29, and his wife Mary Boucher, age 26.

Residence (family)
This is a very problematic census for this family. It shows 40 members of the Raboin clan -- the grandparents, six of their sons, and the children of those six sons -- all living on the same farm. This at a time when all the evidence shows that five of these sons were living with their families in the United States! Except for Edmond's wife and first daughter, everyone is listed as being born in Quebec; this is untrue. All of the children of the other five sons were born in the United States, along with several of the wives. Were the families visiting temporarily? This is unlikely. Frederic's daughter, Exilda, was born in Michigan three days after this census date. Tom's son, Wilfrid, and Mose's daughter, Rose, both of whom are left off of the list of children in this census, were both born in February, two months before this census. Where were they? Finally, the names and ages of the grandchildren are badly garbled, with some names and ages mixed up, some children completely left off, and other nonexistent ones added in. Frankly, it gives me the impression of a rather confused individual (perhaps Grandma Domithilde was slipping a bit?) who didn't understand the enumerator's question, rattling off names of all the families that had moved to the U.S., and getting quite a bit of it wrong. Odd that the enumerator didn't recognize that something was off. It's strange, too, that the families of Joseph Raboin and the daughters of the family were not listed -- only the families of those sons who had moved to the United States.
