Notes
Marriage
The following wedding announcement appears in the Menominee County Journal on 17 April 1909:Max Raboin of this place and Miss Mary Hubert of Rapid River were married at the R. C. Church at Stephenson Wednesday morning, Rev. Fr. Barth officiating. Arthur Raboin was the best man and Miss Cora Girard the bridesmaid.
There are a couple of discrepancies between this account and the record at the courthouse. For one thing, the bride's surname; though Hubert was presumably an anglicization of Uebrick. The date discrepancy is harder to explain. The newspaper account would place the date as 14 April, while the civil record reports a wedding date of 21 April. I tend to think that the mistake was mine, and that I copied one of the dates wrong. UPDATE: The official record (online at FamilySearch: Michigan, Marriages, 1868-1925 -- see link below) confirms a marriage date of 21 April 1909.
