NORWAY — John “Don” Raboin, 84, of Norway died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born March 19, 1918, in Talbot, Mich., son of the late Maxime and Marie (Uebrich) Raboin.
John and his family moved to Niagara, Wis., when he was very young. He graduated from Niagara High School.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 173rd field artillery, 5th Army Division, serving in campaigns in North Africa and Italy. He continued to reunite with his Army friends annually.
John married Coral Edict on Aug. 18, 1951, at Union Protestant Church in Niagara.
He worked for Kimberly-Clark and NOW Corporation for more than 33 years, retiring in 1981.
John was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Norway and the Hall-DeWinter Post 145 American Legion.
He enjoyed music, teaching himself to play the keyboard and later learning to play the violin. John enjoyed restoring antique engines, fishing, walking in the woods, gardening and most of all, spending time with his family. He was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife, Coral; a son, Dr. Paul (Norma) Raboin of Hamilton Lakes; a daughter, Michelle (Darren) Tavonatti of Kingsford; grandchildren, Kaina and Kambria Tavonatti and Nick, Nathan and Steven Raboin; two brothers, Charles Raboin of Niagara and Rodney (Gen) Raboin of Englewood, Fla.; two sisters, Connie Blivin of St. Joseph and Joyce (Dan) Byrom of VonOrmy, Texas; a sister-in-law, Elaine Raboin of De Pere, Wis., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Alan and Clifford Raboin and a sister, Wilna DeClark-Osterberg.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Miner Funeral Home of Norway.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. David Wallis, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will follow in the Norway Township Cemetery.
