Individual Details
Joseph Maxime RABOIN
(7 Jul 1873 - 24 Nov 1967)
Occupations: telegrapher, timber scaler
Attended business college in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 1895.
Joe worked in the timber and railroad industries. For a short time early in this century, he joined his uncles, Henry and George Bush, in Montana. He returned from there and went to work in the lumber industry in Minnesota, eventually taking a homestead near Cass Lake. The railroad spur there was called "Raboin" after him, and this still appeared on maps of the area into the early 1980's, although there is little sign of this settlement today. Joseph moved his family into Cass Lake when his daughter, Doris, was getting older and needed friends. (Doris told me that when she started talking to the trees, her parents decided to move into town!) Years later, after Doris was married, Joe, Rose, and son Phillip, followed the lumber industry out to Klickitat, Washington. In retirement, they moved to Olympia to be closer to Phillip. They both died and are buried in Olympia.
The 1930 Federal Census shows Joseph, Rose, and Philip living in Klickitat, Klickitat, Washington (T4NR13E, Klickitat Precinct, Enum. Dist. 20-19, Sup. Dist. 8, Sheet 5A, p. 228, dated 5 April 1930). Joe was working as a log scaler at a saw mill.

Notes
Birth
This birthdate does differ from the one in Marguerite Raboin Vincent`s family bible; I am including both dates. See christening note for my explanation of why I believe this record to apply to this Joseph.Christen
This baptismal record, as transcribed, has a number of problems, but does match our Joseph well enough that I feel confident it applies to him. First, the surname "Rabon" is close enough to Raboin; that does not seem to be an issue at all. The names of the parents is the biggest problem. The names listed are Joseph Rabon and Mary Boudie. Our Joseph's father is Maxime, not Joseph; but I have seen other situations where names in a record were mixed up or transposed. Boudie is somewhat similar to Boucher; it is difficult to say without seeing the original record if this is actually the name that was written down, or if it is a case of poor handwriting. These names alone would make the assignment of this record to our Joseph somewhat dubious; however, other information is persuasive. The godparents are listed as Moses Raborie and Philomene Lecomb. This most likely refers to Max's uncle, Moses Lacombe, who was a resident of Fort Edward at the time (Max's brother, Mose, was too young in 1873 to be a godfather). "Philomene Lecomb" could refer to either Philomene Pilotte Lacombe, wife of Pierre Lacombe, or to her daughter, Philomene, wife of Max's brother, Frederick. These individuals had strong ties to Max Raboin, and are evidence of a possible connection. Finally the birthdate, while not exactly matching the one in Maggie Raboin Vincent's family bible, is very close. No other record has surfaced in a search of compiled records of the surrounding churches. Pending any evidence to the contrary, I feel confident that this baptismal record refers to Joseph Raboin, son of Maxime and Mary Boucher Raboin.Marriage
Exact date from Marguerite Raboin's bible register. Marriage license application is on file at the Pine County courthouse, dated 5 AUG 1903, but there is no record of the actual ceremony. Probably, the priest did not turn it in. Doris also told me that they were married in August.Census (family)
