Waco Tribune-Herald, Waco, Texas, Friday, January 4, 2008: Marion Kirkpatrick Love passed away Jan. 1, 2008. The Love family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Grace United Methodist Church with Pastor Stephen Schmidt officiating and Pastor Mike Kerzee assisting. Graveside services will follow at 4:45 p.m. in the Garden of Memories in Kerrville, Texas. Marion Kirkpatrick was born Sept. 10, 1919, in Itasca, Texas. She soon moved to the Chapman Ranch near Corpus Christi where her father, Buddy, was a machinist. Marion was a perfectionist in all that she attempted to do and ended up valedictorian of her senior class. In 1938, she married Martin Cyril Love who was an oil rig builder in the South Texas Oil Fields. After World War II, she convinced him to give up rig building and he went in with his brother, Olen, and bought a Desoto/Plymouth dealership in Alice, Texas. There they started their family of three strapping sons. In 1949, they sold the dealership and spent a year in Kerrville, Texas, looking around that area for a ranch to buy. When their search became fruitless, they again chose to work with the same brother. This time they purchased a Ford Dealership in Lampasas, Texas. That dealership became Love Brothers and was the fore runner of Cove Ford which is located in Copperas Cove. Lampasas was Marion's home for 32 years. In 1982, she moved to Copperas Cove to be near her husband whose health dictated a stay in a nursing facility in that same town. He left this earthly world in 1983. Marion had always been deeply religious and active in her local church and when she made the move to Copperas Cove, she stayed faithful to her church. She became active in Grace United Methodist Church and attended UMW, Bible Study classes and Sunday School until her health kept her from regular attendance. Even when homebound, she would welcome Bible Study classes held in her home. One of her favorite pastimes was reading her Bible and Christian based novels. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe "Buddy" and Pearl Kirkpatrick; her husband, Martin C. Love; her older sister, Kathleen Freeman; and her niece, Carol Van Way. She is survived by her three sons, Richard and his wife, Marvel, Bob and his wife, Mary, all of Copperas Cove, and Patrick and his wife, Lynn of McGregor; one sister, Virginia Curry of Diboll, Texas; one brother, Roger Kirkpatrick of Corpus Christi; and grandchildren, Dale, Chip, Rick, Kirt, Michael and Keenan Love, Jackie Powell, Ginger Burt, Christi Harris and Courtney Solomon. Marion had 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Though "Mimi" has silently slipped away from these earthly boundaries, she will always be remembered for her love of nature and all God's creatures, her beautiful oil paintings, her musical talent, her love for God, and her wittiness which came in handy when dealing with her off spring. We celebrate her wonderful life! Serving as pallbearers will be Dale Love, Chip Love, Rick Love, Kirt Love, Keenan Love and Michael Love. For those that desire the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 101 West Avenue F, Copperas Cove, TX 76522. Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Copperas Cove.
