The Altus Times, Altus, Oklahoma, October 7, 1987, Page 16, Col. 4: Clara B. Sommers, 80, died Tuesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at the Tims Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Burial will be at Altus Cemetery under the direction of Tims Funeral Home. Mrs. Sommers was born Oct. 4, 1907 at Medicine Mound, Texas. She married George Glenn Sommers Nov. 28, 1926 at Harmon County, and he died June 3, 1985. She was along time resident of Altus, having lived here since 1939. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Rebecca Lodge. She retired from J. C. Penny's in 1972 after 20 years of service. Survivors are three daughters, Colleen Kirby and Glenn Ann Sommers both of Lawton; Peggy Starwalt, Altus; two sisters, Beulah Zachary, Fort Worth, Texas, LaVerne Jackson, Talus; a brother, Lester Chapman, Tulsa; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
