James Earl "Jim" Frazer

Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier , Cedar Falls, Iowa, Tuesday, October 29, 2013: Oelwein---James Earl "Jim" Frazer, 85, of Oelwein, died Sunday, Oct. 27, at Mercy Living Plus, Oelwein. He was born Aug. 16, 1928, in Oelwein, son of Robert Lewis and Laura Weatherbee Frazer. He married Kathryn "Kaye" Russo on Feb. 6, 1954, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein.He attended Oelwein schools and then joined the U.S. Navy and also the Naval Reserve, serving during World War II and also the Korean War. He returned to Oelwein and worked for Chicago Great Western Railway until it closed in 1983. He then worked for Wilson Railroad Co., Des Moines, for three years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a life member of Knights of Columbus Oelwein Council 1168 and Ross Reid American Legion Post 9. He also was active in the Special Olympics for many years.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Jeffery (Jeanie) of Oelwein; a daughter, Janice Lynne (Tab) Sly of Belmond; a granddaughter, Sarah Jeanne (Ben) Schradle of Waterloo; and nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Robert, Del and Jack "Shine"; two sisters, Evelyn Michaels and Mardell Loux. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, both in Oelwein, with graveside military rites by Ross Reid American Legion Post 9 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, where there will be a 7 p.m. parish Scripture service. Memorial fund: has been established in his name. Condolences may be left at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com. Jim was a sports enthusiast, boxed in the Golden Gloves, loved the Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball. He attended many games with his railroad co-workers. Jim enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, riding his bicycle, casinos, vacationing in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Biloxi, Miss.
