James Kirk Carr

(Dec 1865 - 1963)

Posted at findagrave.com: Born in Iowa. Married Sarah Ellen Williams on 11/04/1887. Was living in Gentry Precinct of Heppner, Oregon at the time of the Federal Census of 1900. His name was mis-transcribed by the census-taker as "John K." instead of James K. His occupation was carpenter. He also was a respected member of the town band, playing a unique double-bell euphonium tuba. He and most of the family survived the devastating Heppner Flood of 1903, but an infant daughter, 15 month old Lilias Carr, was lost. A memorial window in the east wall of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Heppner was dedicated to her. He later moved the family to Mercer Island, WA. In the 1910 census his name middle initial was mis-transcribed as "R" instead of "K" for Kirk. He was listed as an architect. By 1930 he was teacher (of carpentry and music). Father to Hazel, James Kirk (Jr?), Raymond, Myrtle and Lilias. Sons Clarence and Marion were born later in the Seattle area.
