Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 4 at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd.; burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Velma was born January 12, 1925, to Julius Alva and Ruth Louise Guinn Cowan, in Eufaula, OK. She was a member of Moment of Truth Baptist Church. Velma was preceded in death by sons Ronnie Cowan, 59, in 2002, and Terry Peters, 30, in 1988, two brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include her husband Wilbur; son Wes Peters; daughters-in-law Colleen Peters and Sue Cowan; five grandchildren, Valerie Stone, Phillip Cowan, Rachel Thomas, Brooke Peters, and Derek Peters; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leroy Cowan and James Cowan; and two sisters, Wylena Burns and Wilma Polk.
