Eufaula Indian Journal, Eufaula, Oklahoma, Thursday, March 18, 1965, Front Page, Col. 5: Julius Alva Cowan, 63, died in a Muskogee hospital Sunday. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church here, with Rev. Don Anderson officiating. Cowan was a retired farmer and a retired McIntosh County Jailer. Survivors are his wife, Ruth of the home; two sons, Leroy of Pinetop, Arizona, and James of the United State Air Force; five daughters, Mrs. Oleta Jackson of Marble, Arkansas, Mrs. Velma Peters, Miss Delka Cowan and Mrs. Wilma Polk, all of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mrs. Wylena Burns of Olathe, Kansas. Also two brothers, Homer Cowan of Eufaula, and Herman of Wichita, Kansas; four sisters, Mrs. Mae Duke of Eufaula, Mrs. July Armstrong of Arvin, California, Mrs. Jessie Norman of Stockton, California, and Mrs. Madie Tilley of Colorado City, Texas; 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Bearers were Charlie Duke, Dale Duke, Bertice Duke, Bobby Cowan, J. C. Flood and Walter Flood. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery here under the direction of Kelley Funeral Home.
